Todorov's Narrative Theory

To best demonstrate just some of the theories that can be used and applied to film Todorov's Narrative Theory of Equilibrium is just one example.

This Video illustrates the theory of Beginning, Middle and a End with this being separated into stages which are know as Equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition, Repair and New Equilibrium through a Film this is know also as a Linear Narrative.

His theory is that Films follow and start with a five stage structure, this begins with the Equilibrium where everything is balanced and normal. Then there is a disruption of the Equilibrium such as A twister which flies Dorothy to Oz (Wizard of Oz).Then follows the Recognition of the Disruption and what is needed/required to solve it.After this is the Attempt to repair the damage caused and try to resolve and return the Equilibrium back to normal or can be know as the Climax or Resolution before
the New Equilibrium however this never the same and is different from the Old Equilibrium because so much has happened in between which cant simply be forgotten about or ignored.
